Grand Canyon University | Online Degree Programs

Beginning in 1949 as a small, Southern Baptist college in Phoenix, Arizona, Grand Canyon University (GCU) has grown into a full-fledged university that currently boasts a student population of 8,500. Having first been accredited through the Higher Learning Commission (a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools) in 1968, the University has continually received accreditation with the most recent being in 2007, which will carry through until 2017.

The Arizona State Board for Private Postsecondary Education licenses Grand Canyon University in Arizona. In addition, the University has obtained the following specialized accreditations and approvals for our core program offerings: Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs, Arizona State Board of Education, Arizona Department of Education, Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, and Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education.

To accommodate the large on-campus student body, GCU has four freshmen-only housing facilities in addition to four upperclassmen units. The University finds it important to have the freshmen-only units to help support and engage all the students going through their first-year experience. Among the educational offerings, the University also has a diverse assortment of clubs and student organizations to help reach students’ personal interests, while assisting students in building networks and skills for professional use following graduation.

The GCU mascot is “Thunder the Antelope” and is a frequent visitor at most sporting events. GCU Antelopes are part of the Western Athletic Conference and participate with NCAA’s Division I teams.

Grand Canyon University offers online degree programs that enable students to complete coursework when they have free time from any location with Internet access. Although students complete coursework in the convenience of their homes, students have the opportunity to interact frequently with teachers and fellow classmates through online chat rooms. Distance learning is ideal for working professionals and other busy individuals.

In addition to distance learning programs, Grand Canyon University offers courses that can be completed on campus.
